Cadillac commits to Perez through at least 2029

The extension gives Cadillac continuity with an experienced race winner as the team builds beyond its first Formula 1 season.

Sergio Perez and Cadillac have extended their Formula 1 partnership until at least 2029. The announcement, reported by Formula1.com on October 28 ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, secures one side of the American team's driver line-up beyond its debut season.

Perez joined Cadillac for its arrival on the grid in 2026. In the announcement, he framed the renewal as a continuation of a project that requires patience and sustained work. Cadillac chief executive Dan Towriss emphasised continuity, leadership and the task of building a competitive operation.

A commitment to development

At the time of that report, Perez and Cadillac had not yet scored a point during the season. The contract therefore represents a commitment to the programme's future rather than a claim that its performance targets have already been achieved.

F1 correspondent Lawrence Barretto's accompanying analysis highlights the value Cadillac places on Perez's feedback and experience. It also describes a driver who has regained motivation after returning to the championship.

UPDATE FORMULA perspective

Our reading is that continuity can make the development process easier to evaluate: the same driver remains part of the feedback loop as the car evolves. A longer agreement does not establish how quickly results will improve, and this announcement does not by itself settle the other seat.
